About Baglietto
Baglietto has been building boats since 1854, when Pietro Baglietto founded the yard in Varazze, on the Ligurian coast. He started out building small fishing boats and dinghies, and within a few decades the business had moved into pleasure craft: in 1888 it built a boat for Pope Leo XIII, and in 1932 it delivered the 12-metre Alcyone to the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio. Military work ran alongside the yachts. By the First World War the yard was building seaplanes and MAS, the fast motor boats (Motoscafi Anti Sommergibile) used by the Italian Navy, and its naval output continued through the Second World War.
After the war the yard turned back to leisure craft. Between 1958 and 1962 it launched a series of wooden motor yachts named after Mediterranean islands, the Elba, Ischia, Capri, Minorca and Maiorca, with hulls derived from the MAS designs. Baglietto dates its first aluminium hull, a 26-metre yacht, to 1975, and light, fast aluminium yachts became a large part of its reputation in the decades that followed.
The family era ended with the death of Vittorio Baglietto in 1978. From then on, ownership changed hands several times, and it is a history worth getting right. In 1983 the yard was bought by the Rodriquez family, the Messina-based builders known for hydrofoils. Control later passed to the entrepreneur Giampiero Moretti and then to a group led by the Orsi family. During the 1990s Baglietto bought the Cantieri Ferrari yard at La Spezia, which gave it a second site. At the end of 2004 the Camuzzi Group took control of the company.
After a prolonged financial crisis at the yard, by 2010 Baglietto was in liquidation, and its liquidator, Federico Galantini, was selling its assets through a concordato preventivo, a court-supervised arrangement with creditors. In October 2011 he accepted an offer from the Gavio Group, the Italian group whose interests include infrastructure, transport, logistics and motorway management. In February 2012 Beniamino Gavio signed the deed, which transferred the La Spezia yard and the Baglietto brand to a new Gavio company, Baglietto S.p.A. The Varazze yard was handled separately and was not part of the deal. The Gavio Group had agreed in September 2011 to acquire a majority of the builder Cantieri Cerri (CCN), and in 2015 it bought the American sportfishing brand Bertram from the Ferretti Group. At the end of 2020 CCN was merged into Baglietto, which now has its registered office at La Spezia and its operational headquarters at Carrara.
Under Gavio ownership, Baglietto has reorganised itself around semi-custom lines. The first DOM133, a 41-metre aluminium yacht designed by Stefano Vafiadis, was launched at Marina di Carrara on 24 March 2022, with four more hulls then under construction. The current range also includes the DOM115 and DOM155, the T-line displacement yachts, the high-speed Fast 42 and Fast 50, full-custom projects and naval craft built under the Baglietto Navy name.
The T52 is a series of 52-metre displacement yachts of under 500 GT, built in steel and aluminium and designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design; the first hull's interior was developed with Margherita Casprini, and interior designers vary from hull to hull. The first hull was built at La Spezia and presented in Portofino on 17 May 2023 as the first T52 with hybrid propulsion. In its diesel-electric mode, Baglietto quotes a range of up to 7,600 nautical miles. That hull won the 2024 World Superyacht Award in the category for displacement motor yachts of 499GT and below, 45 metres and above. The eighth T52, Marsa Luna, was launched at La Spezia in December 2025 and announced in January 2026. Machinery varies from hull to hull: the first used twin MTU 16V2000 M86 engines, while Marsa Luna has twin Caterpillar C32s and an upgraded hybrid system.
Baglietto has since presented the T54 as taking the baton from the T52, and above both sits the T60. The first hull, Kinda II, was launched at La Spezia in March 2026, and her delivery was announced in August 2026. At 60.6 metres it is the largest yacht Baglietto has built, overtaking the 59.4-metre Vicky.
