About Nereids Yachts
Nereids Yachts was a small superyacht builder with a Swiss head office and Turkish production. The company, Nereids Yachts SA, was registered in Mies, in the Swiss canton of Vaud, in July 2003, with Bekman Reisyan as chairman of its board. The Turkish magazine Yacht Türkiye named Reisyan and the naval architect Turhan Soyaslan as the founding partners, and in 2009 described Nereids as a megayacht builder headquartered in Switzerland that carried out all of its design and construction work in Turkey. The name comes from Greek mythology: the Nereids were the fifty sea-nymph daughters of Nereus, "the old man of the sea", and the company named its yachts after them.
The first was Thetis, a 49.7-metre motor yacht with a welded steel hull, launched in 2005. She was styled by Michael Leach Design, Soyaslan's design office handled the naval architecture, and she is powered by two Caterpillar diesels. Nereids chose not to sell her off plan, building her without a buyer in place. According to Boat International, she sold four months after launch, and the sale enabled the company to buy its own yard at Tuzla, 30 kilometres south along the Turkish coast from Istanbul. Thetis has since carried the names Azteca and Azteca II.
Two more yachts followed. Melite, a 24-metre sailing yacht with a welded steel hull and a composite superstructure, was launched in 2007. When Boat International reviewed her that December, Reisyan was particularly pleased that her aluminium mast had been built in Turkey. Arethusa, a 47.08-metre steel motor yacht completed in 2008 and presented at the Monaco Yacht Show, was the third. Soyaslan Design again worked on the naval architecture, and Boat International's 2009 review credited the interior to Geneva-based Design Investment, with gold-leaf artwork by the Turkish artist Günseli Kato. Arethusa has since carried the names Alkhor and N.M.N.
In its January 2009 issue Boat International reported a fourth yacht, the 67-metre motor yacht Pherousa, as under construction. Boat International's superyacht directory today credits Nereids with three yachts: Azteca, Melite and N.M.N.
The Swiss company has since moved on from the Nereids name. In 2009 it moved its registered office to Founex, also in Vaud, and in June 2012 it changed its name to Nord Swiss Shipping SA. Under that name it remains registered in Founex. By February 2014 the nereidsyachts.com domain no longer carried the company's website.
