About Quicksilver

Quicksilver is a European boat brand of Brunswick Corporation, the American group that also owns Mercury Marine, Sea Ray, Boston Whaler and Bayliner. Quicksilver dates its story to 1986, when, by its own account, Brunswick and Mercury began manufacturing Quicksilver inflatable boats in Europe, and it marked its 40th anniversary in 2026. In its annual report for 2025, Brunswick lists Quicksilver among the boat brands it bases in Europe and Asia-Pacific, alongside Rayglass and Uttern. The brand is run by Brunswick Marine in EMEA, whose branch address is the Parc Industriel de Petit-Rechain in Verviers, Belgium.

The name has two meanings inside the same group, and it is worth keeping them apart. Quicksilver is also a Brunswick parts brand: the same annual report says engine oils, lubricants and other company-branded consumables are sold under the Mercury, Mercury Precision Parts, Quicksilver and Seachoice names in its Engine Parts and Accessories segment, and Brunswick's brand directory links the boats and the products to separate websites. What connects them is Mercury Marine, which Brunswick acquired in 1961. Quicksilver boats are rigged with Brunswick engines (the annual report says the Boat segment sources substantially all of its engines from Brunswick's own Propulsion segment), but a Quicksilver-branded can of oil or spare part is a different product line from a Quicksilver hull.

Quicksilver's own timeline traces the move from inflatables to rigid boats. It launched a line of aluminium and fibreglass boats in 1993 and the Commander series in 1995. According to the timeline, in 1999 Brunswick acquired the French fishing-boat brand Arvor and marketed it under the Quicksilver name; Float Magazin reported in 2025 that Arvor, popular into the 2010s, was folded into Quicksilver's Pilothouse line. The brand describes 2010 as its turning point: the Activ and Captur ranges were launched, and a dedicated product development and engineering team of designers, engineers and a naval architect was set up in Florida. Quicksilver says Brunswick formed its Venture Group in 2019, putting Quicksilver alongside Bayliner.

In the 2016 line-up, Activ covered leisure boats (the Activ Open, Sundeck, Cruiser, Cabin and Weekend lines) and Captur covered fishing (Captur Pilothouse, Captur Arvor and Captur Fish). Most model names combine a three-digit number with the boat type, as in the Activ 605 Sundeck or the 805 Pilothouse, and the number broadly rises with the size of the boat. The current range is organised by type: Open (including the compact 475 and 525 aXess), Sundeck, Cabin, Cruiser, Bowrider, Weekend and Pilothouse. The Captur name no longer appears in the main model menu, where the fishing boats are listed simply as the 625, 705 and 805 Pilothouse.

The Weekend line is the cruising end of the range: today it runs from the Activ 705 to the Activ 905 Weekend. In 2016 it was topped by the Activ 855 Weekend, which Quicksilver's product sheet described as its largest model yet: 8.91 metres overall with outboards (9.02 metres with the engines it lists as inboards), 2.98 metres in beam, CE design category B and rated for 10 people, with a choice of single or twin Mercury outboards or MerCruiser petrol and Mercury diesel engines. When you are looking at an older Quicksilver, confirm the full model name: Motor Boats Monthly tested an Activ 855 Cruiser in its January 2014 issue, gave the same 8.91 metre length and 2.98 metre beam, and noted that its MerCruiser petrol and diesel options all drive through sterndrives.

Quicksilver's European production comes from a Brunswick-owned plant in Portugal and from a contract builder in Poland. Brunswick's annual report lists an owned boat-manufacturing site at Vila Nova de Cerveira, on the Portuguese bank of the Minho river, which forms the border with Spain, and Quicksilver says its production facility in Portugal at Vila Nova opened a new facility for expansion in 2021. Float Magazin, describing Brunswick's factory at Campos in 2025, gave it 15,000 square metres and capacity for up to 5,000 boats a year. In Poland, Balt-Yacht, based near Augustów, says Brunswick Marine in EMEA has been its main partner for many years, that it builds large series of Quicksilver boats, and that the cooperation dates from 2007.

Quicksilver says it is the main supplier of boats to Freedom Boat Club, which Brunswick acquired in 2019, as the club expands into European countries. For its 40th anniversary the brand said it had a network of more than 300 dealers and distributors in 70 countries.

Frequently Asked Questions About Quicksilver

Who makes Quicksilver boats?

Quicksilver is a brand of Brunswick Corporation, the American group that also owns Mercury Marine, Sea Ray, Boston Whaler and Bayliner. Its European production comes from Brunswick's own plant in Portugal and a contract builder in Poland. Brunswick lists Quicksilver among the boat brands it bases in Europe, and the brand is run by Brunswick Marine in EMEA from Petit-Rechain, Verviers, in Belgium.

Where are Quicksilver boats built?

Quicksilver's European production comes from Brunswick's own plant at Vila Nova de Cerveira in northern Portugal, where Quicksilver says a new facility opened for expansion in 2021, and from the Polish contract builder Balt-Yacht near Augustów, which says it has worked with Brunswick since 2007 and builds large series of Quicksilver boats.

Are Quicksilver boats and Quicksilver parts the same brand?

They share a name and an owner but are separate brands. Brunswick sells engine oils, lubricants and other consumables under the Quicksilver name in its Engine Parts and Accessories segment, alongside Mercury and Mercury Precision Parts. Quicksilver boats belong to Brunswick's Boat segment and are rigged with Brunswick's own engines.

What do Activ and Captur mean on a Quicksilver?

They are the two ranges Quicksilver launched in 2010. Activ covers leisure boats (open, sundeck, bowrider, cabin, cruiser and weekend models) and Captur covered fishing boats, including the Captur Pilothouse. The current site lists the fishing boats simply as the 625, 705 and 805 Pilothouse. The number in each name broadly rises with the size of the boat.
